Date & Nut Bread

Aunt Dottie’s World Famous Date/ Nsut Bread




1 pkg. pitted Date

2 tsp. baking soda

  c boiling water


˝ c shortening

1˝ c sugar

1 c walnuts (as is)

3 c flour

2 eggs

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp salt

Pour boiling water over dates and baking soda.

Let cool.

Cream shortening and sugar.

Add eggs and vanilla.

Cover walnuts with small amount of flour.

When dates are cool, alternately add flour mixture

and date mixture over the sugar.

Add salt.

Pour into 2 loaf pans that have been greased and lined with

waxed paper.


Bake for approx 45 minutes in 350 degree oven.


Note from Aunt Dottie: the original recipe states Bake for 1 hour … but she usually checks and it’s done in about 45 minutes.
