1 (16-ounce) loaf unsliced Italian bread

1 cup presliced fresh mushrooms

pizza double-cheese

(a blend of part-skim mozzarella and cheddar cheese)

cup bottled traditional pizza sauce

6 ounces ultra-lean ground beef



8 (1/8 thick) slices onion, separated into rings

1 tsp dried Italian seasoning



tsp garlic powder



tsp crushed red pepper



  1. Preheat oven to 500 F Cut Italian bread loaf in half horizontally. Place both halves of bread, cut side up, on a large baking sheet. Spread cup pizza sauce over each half of bread. Divide onion rings and sliced mushrooms evenly between bread halves. Crumble ground beef into " pieces, and divide beef evenly between bread halves. Sprinkle Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and crushed red pepper evenly over each pizza; top each with 3/4 cup shredded cheese.


  1. Bake pizza halves at 500 for 9 minutes or until ground beef is done and cheese melts. Cut each pizza half into 3 equal pieces.
